Rooman F Ahad, MD

Dr. Rooman Ahad, a board-certified pediatric neurologist, is actively involved in the diagnosis and treatment planning for children with autism at the UNLV Ackerman Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Solutions.
With subspecialties in autism and neurobehavioral disorders, Dr. Ahad also treats comorbid conditions associated with autism such as sleep difficulties, behavioral concerns, ADHD, and seizures. She is the only board-certified child neurologist in the state of Nevada with supplemental clinical fellowship training in the field of autism.

Dr. James M. Alexander, MD is a professor and chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology. A 1991 graduate of the University of Texas at Houston, he went on to complete his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern. After his fellowship, he stayed on as faculty at UTSW where he served in many leadership positions including chief of the obstetrics service.

Pediatric gastroenterology – it is the specialty practiced by Dr. Rabea Alhosh, an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics.
Because parents are often concerned and anxious when they bring their child to see a gastroenterologist, a physician specializing on the digestive system, Dr. Alhosh says he spends a lot of time helping parents understand their child’s diagnosis and treatment options.

Dr. John Anooshian, an associate professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, received his medical degree from the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine.
Anooshian completed his general psychiatric residency at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, he is medical director and senior psychiatrist at the UNLV Medicine-Mohave Counseling Center.

Dr. Miriam E. Bar-on, is the medical school’s pediatric residency program director. She oversees and administers all of the school’s resident and fellowship programs and also serves as the medical school’s designated institutional official.
Annabel E. Barber, MD, FACS

Dr. Annabel Barber, a professor of surgery at the UNLV School of Medicine, is a board-certified surgeon who performs surgeries for patients with breast, colorectal, thyroid and head and neck cancers. She also sees patients with the following gastrointestinal disorders: acid reflux, heartburn, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Ovunc Bardakcioglu, MD
Colon and Rectal Surgery
Dr. Ovunc Bardakcioglu, an associate professor of surgery at the UNLV School of Medicine, serves as chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Dr. Bardakcioglu, who performs as many as 130 colorectomies per year, was educated in Germany and chose to specialize in colon and rectal surgery during his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center.
He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, and added advanced “no scar” minimally invasive surgical techniques to his skill set.
Jennifer Baynosa, MD

Dr. Jennifer Baynosa is an associate professor of breast oncology surgery at the UNLV School of Medicine.
A graduate of the USC Keck School of Medicine, she completed her general surgery residence at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine. After residency, she completed a breast surgery fellowship at Stanford University.
Currently the program director for the UNLV School of Medicine General Surgery Residency, her main research interest is breast cancer and how it metastasizes.

Jo-Lawrence Bigcas, MD
Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction
Dr. Bigcas primary clinical interest is in the treatment of head and neck cancer patients, salivary and thyroid disease, cancer prevention, skull base surgery, robotic surgery, and head and neck reconstruction. He also has clinical interests in other subspecialties of otolaryngology including sinonasal disease, bony and soft tissue facial reconstruction, and facial reanimation.

Shirong (Sara) Chang, MD

Dr. Chang, an assistant professor of pediatric surgery at UNLV School of Medicine, is a board-certified general and pediatric surgeon.
Her areas of special interest include surgical disease of the newborn gastrointestinal tract, anorectal malformations, pediatric surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and surgery for inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Paul Chestovich, an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Surgery, graduated from Purdue University with degrees in chemical engineering and biochemistry prior to receiving his medical degree from Indiana University.

Dr. Laura Culley, the UNLV School of Medicine Associate Dean of Community Engagement, has more than 25 years of experience as a board-certified physician in internal medicine, serving in leadership positions with two medical practices in New York City and Las Vegas.
She previously served as medical director of Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada. For nearly 30 years, Dr. Culley operated a private practice in New York City and then Las Vegas.

Dr. David Di John, an associate professor of pediatrics at the UNLV School of Medicine, is the program director of the UNLV maternal-HIV program.
He has more than 30 years of experience in research and treatment of pediatric infectious diseases, including clinical care for women, infants, children and youth with HIV/AIDS.
He directed a pediatric AIDS clinic in New York, taught clinical pediatrics for 18 years at New York University Medical Center, and served as director of pediatric infectious diseases for Flushing Hospital Medical Center in New York.

Miriam is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, has served twice as president of the Nevada Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the Nevada Dietetic Association), and was selected as Nevada’s Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year in 1995.
Tina Elkins, MD

Tina Elkins, MD, joined the faculty at UNLV Department of Otolaryngology in 2018. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, she was the primary owner of a successful general ENT practice in Athens, Texas since 2005. While serving a surrounding community of approximately 75,000, she treated many ENT conditions such as difficulty breathing due to septal deviation or tonsil enlargement, chronic sinusitis, allergies, ear infections, throat infections, hearing loss, thyroid masses, skin cancers and head and neck cancer. She enjoys being able to work with all ages, newborn to geriatric.

Dr Fahl is a professor of pediatrics and chair of the anatomy program of the UNLV School of Medicine and brings to UNLV Medicine years of clinical and academic experience in pediatric gastroenterologist. He mentors pediatric residents to help them learn their specialty as it relates to children with feeding, nutrition, and digestive issues.
Dr. Fahl has been practicing pediatric gastroenterology for more than 35 years and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2014 he was recognized as one of the region’s top doctors.

She also trains registered behavior technicians and board certified assistant behavior analysts. Dr. Stepanie Jones, an assistant professor of pediatric surgery at the UNLV School of Medicine, is a board-certified general and pediatric surgeon.

Dr. Kate Martin, an associate professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine, developed a health assessment and promotion program to improve the quality of life for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Serving as the medical school’s director of community engagement, Dr. Martin is also the residency program director for the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine.
Marsha Matsunaga-Kirgan, MD

Dr. Marsha Matsunaga-Kirgan, a professor and acting vice chair of the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has had her research published in publications that include the British Journal of Pharmacology and Journal of Investigative Medicine.
In 2013 she won the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Excellence in Teaching Award.
She is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine.
Allison G. McNickle, MD

Dr. McNickle, an Assistant Professor at the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Surgery, is the Section Chief of Emergency General Surgery.
Dr. McNickle earned her medical degree from Rush Medical College and completed her General Surgery Residency at the University of Illinois-Chicago at Mount Sinai Hospital. She completed her Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Dr. McNickle is Board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care.
John M. Menezes, MD
Plastic Surgery, Cleft Lip and Palate Repair
Dr. John Menezes, an associate professor with the UNLV School of Medicine, is the only fellowship-trained –Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine — craniofacial surgeon in Las Vegas.
Among his areas of expertise are cleft lip and palate repair, craniosynostosis, ear reconstruction, microsurgery, and adult and pediatric facial trauma.
Rebecca Meyers, MD

Dr. Rebecca Meyers joined the UNLV faculty in 2017 as a pediatric hospitalist.
Her primary clinical roles include caring for hospitalized children at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. In addition, she is involved in medical education by instructing resident physicians and medical students during their inpatient service. Dr. Meyers’s professional interests include the care of medically complex children and pediatric transplant recipients, as well as quality improvement.

Marie Mitchell, a nurse practitioner with the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, has been practicing in women’s health care for more than 35 years.
She received a Masters of Science degree in women’s health from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She also received a Masters of Arts in business management from Webster University and a Juris Doctorate from the Boyd School of Law at UNLV.
Over the course of her career, Mitchell has been involved inpatient and outpatient obstetrics.
Kush D. Modi, MD

Dr. Kush Modi, an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, received his medical degree Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, India.
He completed his Masters in Public Health at Drexel University. He completed residency in internal medicine at Drexel University and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr. Modi is associate fellowship program director for pulmonary and critical care at the UNLV School of Medicine.
Joseph Nagan, DO

Dr. Joseph Nagan, an osteopathic physician who underwent fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the UNLV School of Medicine, where he is now an assistant professor of internal medicine in the pulmonary and critical care division, practices his specialty of high acuity critical care at University Medicine Center.
Born in San Francisco, he did his undergraduate work at the University of California at San Diego and worked for two years as an EMT after graduation.

Dr. Alison Netski, an associate professor and chair of the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, specializes in the treatment of adults with a broad range of psychiatric illness, including mood, psychotic, and anxiety disorders.
Board certified from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine, Dr. Netski attended the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine and completed her residency in psychiatry at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt.

Beverly A. Neyland, professor of pediatrics/Interim Chair of Pediatrics at the
University of Nevada School of Medicine, earned the B.S. degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and the M.D. degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Additional training includes an externship at the University of Zagreb in Yugoslavia; an internship at the Long Beach Memorial Children’s Hospital, Long Beach, California; and pediatric residency at the UCLA/Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Matthew Ng, an associate professor at the UNLV School of Medicine, is also residency program director for the otolaryngology-head & neck surgery residency training program. He specializes in otology-neurotology and lateral skull base surgery.
Specializing in otology-neurotology, Dr. Ng treats all forms of hearing loss, tinnitus, chronic ear infection, cholesteatoma, facial nerve disorders, dizziness, and imbalance, as well as tumors of the lateral skull base.
Tsungju O-Lee, MD

Dr. Tsungiu O-Lee, an associate professor of otolaryngology at the UNLV School of Medicine, is director of pediatric otolaryngology for University Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital of Southern Nevada.
A fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist, he specializes in treating the diseases of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) within the pediatric population. Dr. O-Lee’s special interest is in the diseases of the airway and congenital deformities. He also performs fetal surgery while the fetus is in utero.

Dr. Gordon Ohning, an associate professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in gastroenterology from UCLA.
After 30 years as a professor at UCLA — he also was a prolific researcher with the CURE: Digestive Diseases Research Center there — Ohning said the opportunity to help create the new UNLV School of Medicine was too good to pass up.
Oluwafunmilola T Okuyemi, MD, MSCI, FACS
Otolaryngology, Oncology and Microvascular Surgery
Dr. Oluwafunmilola Okuyemi, an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology, is currently the only active otolaryngology-trained microvascular reconstructive surgeon in Nevada.
Her research interests include clinical outcomes research investigating functional outcomes in head and neck cancer treatment, and microvascular reconstruction. Dr. Okuyemi also has interest in investigations into possible future head and neck transplantation therapies.

Dr. Lianne Ong, an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Family & Community Medicine, has served as the UNLV Student Health Center Latent Tuberculosis Treatment Program Coordinator.
Board certified in family medicine, she said she appreciates that academic medicine allows her to work with medical students and to provide her patients with evidence-based care.
Her medical interests are providing care to women, adolescents, and children.
Helen Onoriode, MD

Dr. Helen Onoriode, an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, has had research on surgeon behavior published in the Journal of American College of Surgery.
She received her medical degree from St. George’s University and completed a residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brookly, NY in general and high risk OB/GYN, minimally invasive gynecology and family practice.
In 2015 she was awarded a Brunschwig Fellowship at Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Elissa Palmer, a professor, and chair of the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
With research interests that include Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue, and the development of medical genetics computer programs, she has published articles in publications that include Academic Medicine, the Journal of Genetic Counseling and Physician Leadership Journal.
David Parks, MD

Dr. David Parks, a pediatric pulmonologist and associate professor in the UNLV School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, believes that patient education and establishing rapport with patients and their families are essential to the art of medicine.
For asthma patients, he developed a two-page “asthma action plan” that details what they should do while living with asthma, how to use an inhaler, and the actions to take when different symptoms arise.
Fateh Peera, MD

Dr. Fateh Peera, who at the University of Arizona College of Medicine studied the importance of calories obtained from beverages as a contributing factor to obesity in children, joined UNLV Medicine as a pediatrician in 2018.
A 2007 graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine where he also completed his residency program in pediatrics, he worked as a pediatrician in Tucson, AZ for five years before becoming an assistant professor of pediatrics at Texas Tech University in 2015.

Dr. Ashley Sarasan, who completed a fellowship in geriatrics at the Mayo Clinic, is a UNLV School of Medicine Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine with clinical interests that include Parkinson’s disease, end of life care and Alzheimer’s disease.

David Savarese, MD

Dr. David Savarese, an associate professor in the UNLV School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, was director of a community health center in Connecticut that offered medical care, behavioral health care and dental health care to children and their families who were traumatized by the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Newtown, Conn. That tragedy took the lives of 20 children and six adults.

Susanna Sorrentino, MD

Dr. Susanna Sorrentino, a specialist in genetics, has joined the UNLV Medicine Pediatric Center. She comes to Southern Nevada from California, where for two years she was the Valley Children’s Hospital Director of the Cancer Genetics Program and Director of the Cardio Genetics Program. Valley Children’s is an educational affiliate of Stanford University.
Dr. Sorrentino sees patients and teaches medical students/residents. She serves as the section chief for genetics and is an assistant professor of pediatrics with the UNLV School of Medicine.

Dr. John Varras, is a professor and the chair of the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. He attended medical school at Creighton University in Nebraska, where he also completed his residency.
He is the former chair for the department of internal medicine at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine. Under his leadership, the department of internal medicine expanded the size of the residency training program and started three new fellowships in cardiology, gastroenterology, and pulmonary and critical care.

Dr. Wei Zhong Wang, a professor at the UNLV School of Medicine, is an orthopedic, hand and microvascular surgeon.
Also an established research scientist with more than 25 years of experience – his research interest is ischemia reperfusion injury adipose stem cells — Dr. Wang completed clinical fellowships at Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, KY.

Robert C. Wang, MD

Dr. Robert Wang, a professor, and chair of otolaryngology at the UNLV School of Medicine has more than 30 years of experience in dealing with conditions of the ear, nose, and throat and related structures of the head and neck.
With expertise in head and neck cancer treatment, Dr. Wang runs the sole head and neck tumor board in Las Vegas, partnering with Dr. Oluwafunmilola Okuyemi who performs the reconstruction. Dr. Wang performs robotic-assisted as well as laser surgery for cancers.

Dr. David Weismiller, a professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine, is known nationally for educating his colleagues through the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
