Colon and Rectal Surgery
Dr. Ovunc Bardakcioglu, an associate professor of surgery at the UNLV School of Medicine, serves as chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Dr. Bardakcioglu, who performs as many as 130 colorectomies per year, was educated in Germany and chose to specialize in colon and rectal surgery during his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center.
He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, and added advanced “no scar” minimally invasive surgical techniques to his skill set.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Bardakcioglu was one of the first colorectal robotics surgeons in the U.S. and is now the program director for the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship as well as the director of Sunrise Hospital’s Digestive Health Institute.
During the 2015 annual meeting of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, he did a presentation on “New Advances in Fluorescent Imaging,” one of his research specialties.
