Shannon Barker, DO

Doctor Specialty Pediatrics

Dr. Barker is originally from Las Vegas.  She went to college at the University of Portland in Portland, OR, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.  She continued on to receive her osteopathic medical degree from Western University of Healthy Sciences in Pomona, CA.  She stayed in Southern California for residency at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.  There she was part of the inaugural class of the Primary Care Track – spending half of her time at Riverside University Health Systems.  The track allowed her to work in a county hospital as well as the tertiary care children’s hospital with a focus on primary care.  She has special interests in newborn and breastfeeding medicine.

After completion of residency, Dr. Barker stayed on at Loma Linda as a Chief Resident.  During this year, she also took on the role of the Medical Director of the Newborn Nursery at Riverside University Health Systems which she held the following year until leaving Loma Linda/RUHS for Las Vegas.  During her chief year and following attending year at Loma Linda/RUHS she mainly worked in the clinic intermixed with weeks on service for both wards and nursery.  She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Barker is excited to return to Las Vegas where she was born and raised.  She has always had a passion for teaching, largely attributed to her mother being a middle school teacher.  She attended Valley High School in the International Baccalaureate program.

Dr. Barker completed medical school in 2014 and residency in 2017.  She left her position as faculty and attending as well as the Newborn Nursery Director to join UNLV.  She also currently holds the title of FAAP after passing the pediatric boards.

Dr. Barker has been married since 2016 and has a two year old daughter.  She loves spending time with them, swimming, playing with their dog and cat, and watching Disney movies.  Her and her family have enjoyed having a Disneyland annual pass this year; introducing her daughter to Mickey and the gang.  She is excited to show them what her hometown of Las Vegas has to offer.  Dr. Barker’s parents and sister still live in the Valley and looking forward to some more family time with them.
